Today, I found an interesting article from a blog (http://hyimnoni.wordpress.com/2011/10/17/what-a-psychologist-says-about-fangirlsfanboys/). Written in that blog, an article that a psychologist says about fangirl and fanboys for Korean celebrities. I guess it was written in Chinese before getting translated to English and Indonesian.
And guess what? That's so ME!! hahahahaha...
Below is what the article says about fangirl/fanboys:
A psychologist says: “Don’t underestimate those children who chase after Korean celebrities, their hearts are purer than anyone else, they love courageously, they will want to try their best to tackle difficult obstacles, the language and cultural barriers. They symbolise peace, they don’t discriminate based on race, they befriend people with the same interest from different countries, they’re more passionate and warm than anyone else. They don’t betray the ones they like easily, they are persistent and don’t give up easily. They are stronger than anyone else on the inside, because when they are loving these Korean stars, they experience the setbacks they’ve never experienced in life. They are all sensitive children, easily touched to tears for a long time because of one incident.
Through investigation, most of them understand gratitude. Their way of thinking is different from others, they don’t easily get carried away by love, they don’t harbour thoughts of doing bad things, and their criteria when looking for a partner is very high, other than looks, personality is more important, so the rate of marriage isn’t high, but neither is the rate of divorce.
Their memory is very good, they can easily remember the korean lyrics they don’t understand, and their coordination skills are also very strong. Most of them are cheerful children, not the kind who keep to themselves. In short, the way these children think is vastly different from others, and their thoughts are not easy to understand. Generally, only those who have similar interests are able to enter their world.”
I feel so much related to the article. I have been so open to the world than I am truly an avid fangirl of Asian Music. You name the song, I might know it. You name the artist, I might recognize them by heart. I have been listening to their song since junior high, when I am simpy 12/13 years old in a country where Chinese language was banned. I started by listening to all Cantonese song from HongKong singers. Then I moved all over, with Japanese singers, Taiwanese and recently Korean.
To put it shorter, I am an avid fan of SHINee and not to mention my lifetime crush and admiration for Fernando Alonso.
Being an avid fan of some other people for more than half my life, I feel almost all the writers trying to explain about how fangirl and fanboys think. It took a courage to like some artist. My first lesson learned came from a friend that says "he doesn't even know you are alive in the world! why on earth do you like them??". Then why on earth do I continue to do so? Cause liking someone who doesn't know me is a courage of itself. A courage that I learn so early as a kid. A courage to simply love myself and thus if I am capable of loving myself, I am able to love others as much.
Second, being an avid fangirl, I learn early in life how to safe and sacrifice. When my parent simply refused to fund me so that I can buy casette, CD and later DVD, I learned how to safe from my pocket monet and work part time. Fangirl means early learning to financial management. Some may fail but I do feel that I am lucky to learn that I learn alot how to manage my money without losing the good way of spending it. And I am still spending..
Mostly it goes on SHINee's collection. I have all the CDs and DVDs, both released in Korea and Japan. I took it seriously that I managed to get some collection of original tees that come during SHINee World Concert in Nanjing. Tough I have to admit that it comes in small size. Mine you, I got it in China so go figure. At least I can use it for a motivation for some fat-burning exercise. But that's it.
Oh, I went to Formula 1 in Suzuka in 2009. What an incredible journey it was. After 5 years of claiming myself an Alonso fangirl, I never once imagined that I could met him in person and watch the live match. And I love the game! My mom used to ask why I like this game of cars circling around and looks aimless. But like is like.. so be it.
Third, being an avid fangirl you can simply project yourself tottering the globe. A good dream for a change since your idols might only perform outside your country like in my very own case. Dreaming of meeting SHINee and Fernando Alonso, I managed to travel all the way to Nanjing (with a meeting with bestie as a huuggee bonus) and Japan. It was a great experience and I will repeat all over again. Now, each time I wanted to make a travel plan, I will first search the possible concert date or race day. Simply because its like killing two birds with one stone. You can see your idols and get your own adventure in far away land.
So, don't be afraid of being a fangirl. Just like I do =)

If you ever wonder where I got Oden in Indonesia, I found it in one of the new chain of convenient store in Blora. I didn't mean to go there actually. But when I passed it, I remembered my friend saying that I could found onigiri there. I got what I wanted and I got shocked that they also sell oden! I grabbed them at once and walked home half-running. A good breakfast to begin my weekend ^^
